A hotel is an establishment that provides paid tourist accommodation (hotel room or suite), generally for short periods.
Besides accommodation, hotels often offer a variety of services to their customers, such as restaurants or child care, and the use of facilities such as a swimming pool, sauna, etc. Some offer conferencing services offering rental meeting rooms, encouraging groups to hold conventions and meetings.
Etymologically, the term refers to any hotel building to receive guests. If they are passing, hotel tourist talking. But the term hotel is also applicable to the mayors of major cities (City Hall), hospitals (Hôtel-Dieu), the mansions ...
Hotels differ from motels in that in the latter, access to the room is from the outside of the building, while in hotels, access to the room is usually done from the inside, which can increase the safety of customers and provide a more upscale image to the institution. However, in France, several chains Motels (Campanile, Balladins, Formule 1 and Ibis some) use the term Hotel.
In Australia, a hotel can serve alcoholic drinks and meals, usually in a casual setting, but not necessarily of the accommodation provides. The term "pub" or "bar" in other countries is generally used for this type of establishment, but these terms are considered synonyms in common use in Australia.
Some hotels are distinguished by ecological ecolabel as Green Key or flower, others are restricted to home naturists they are recognized by the French Federation of Naturism and the International Naturist Federation.
