A journey is a movement in space, whether voluntary or forced, made to a point more or less distant and self-interested (eg tourism) or professional (business) or other (deportation, war, political or environmental refugees), travel motivated by sports or socio-cultural or major events.
While the number of inaccessible areas unmapped and unknown decreased, the journey has grown considerably and democratized, in the twentieth century with the advent of modern transportation increasingly fast and comfortable, the railway first, then the automobile and the airplane. This evolution has occurred with increasing negative consequences in terms of energy and fossil fuels, fragmentation of landscapes and ecosystems by transport infrastructure and emission of greenhouse gases and other pollutants.
